Dr. S. Balakrishnan, M.Sc., Ph.D. , EX – Principal (who was also a chemistry professor and former principal of Pachaiyaapa’s College Chennai). took much interest in starting the much sought after B.Sc Chemistry course in this college in the year 2003-04. More than 30 students joined the course in the very first year of introduction.

A 40 student strength laboratory was established in the year 2003-04. The laboratory was equipped with all modern amenities like work table with LPG gas burner fittings, Air ovens, analytical balances and other in the first year itself. when the 1st batch of students reached the final year of study in the year 2005-06 the college Management was helpful in expanding the department with 3 more faculty members with rich experience and high qualifications.

Prof Dr. N. Lakshmi Kanthan M.Sc., M.Phil., PhD. with 37 years of teaching experience was appointed as the professor and head of the Department of chemistry in June 2005.

Another senior most faculty member Mr. D. Andrews. M.Sc., M.A. a retired Professor of Chemistry with 35 years of teaching experience at his credit was inducted into the department in the year 2006-07. This team of teachers served this institution in the years, 2006-08. The 20 students of first set out of 30 were gone for higher studies like M.Sc., M.Tech and Ph.D. and placed in well known industries like MRF, MFL, Xmold polymers, CLRI and in other industries like fertilizer, paint and pharmaceutical.
